Another Person Dies in Bethel After Being Found Cold

A second person has died in Bethel after being found in an unheated home. 60-year-old June Swope was found unresponsive Friday morning at 102 East Avenue, located across the slough.

The call came in to the Bethel police station at about 11 a.m. When police and medics arrived on the scene, Swope was cold to the touch. Medics attempted to treat her and transported her to the hospital in Bethel where she was later pronounced dead.

Swope was the second person in one week to die in Bethel from possible hypothermia. Norbert Kashatok of Bethel was found last Tuesday (Dec. 4) in an unheated home near Mission Road. He was cold and unresponsive and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

In both cases, Bethel police say they are not investigating because no foul play is suspected.
