Former State Senator John Cowdery Dies

Former state Senator John Cowdery of Anchorage is dead. Cowdery was first elected to the legislature in 1982.

He got caught up in the Veco bribery scandal and pled out in 2008.  He was 83.

Cowdery had a construction company before going into politics.  He had considerable power as chairman of the Rules committees in both the House and, later, the Senate.
