The annual statewide competitions are coming up soon, as well as the international Arctic Winter Games in Fairbanks.  These games are spectacular, like the high kick, and sometimes require toughness and courage. Their cultural roots are for preparing for outdoor survival and hunting success. We’ll have athletes and cultural experts in the studio.

HOST: Charles Wohlforth

GUESTS:

  • Erica Meckel is a veteran athlete, this will be her fourth Arctic Winter Games; Meckel was the Fairbanks Native Youth Olympics coach last year. She was also just selected by Team Alaska to be one of two athletes to read the Athletes Oath at the opening ceremonies.
  • Nicole Johnson is from the Cook Inlet Tribal Council.
  • Nick Hanson is a coach for the Bering Straits School District. This is his first Arctic Winter Games as an open male athlete in Arctic Sports. Hanson joins the show from Unalakeet.
