One person dies in Crooked Creek cabin fire

Alaska State Troopers say one person has died after a cabin fire near Crooked Creek on Saturday.

The online dispatch says Troopers responded at about 10 a.m., after a small vessel notified them while they were on patrol. They went six miles up the George River to find a cabin burned down and the remains of a body.

Troopers tentatively identified the man as Joseph Phillips.

The remains are being sent to the Alaska State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for positive identification and an autopsy.
The next of kin have been notified and the investigation is ongoing.
