Anchorage man arrested for stabbing sleeping girlfriend

A 22-year-old Anchorage man has been charged with assault for stabbing his girlfriend in the head as she slept.

Court records say the man said he went two days without sleep and heard screaming voices that “told him to kill his girlfriend” Thursday night.

The 18-year-old girlfriend called 911. Anchorage police found her bleeding from a wound on her head and say she was awoken from sleep by her boyfriend stabbing her.

She was taken to the hospital and police say her injuries are not life-threatening.

According to a police statement, she said her boyfriend is schizophrenic, was recently discharged from Alaska Psychiatric Institute and had not been taking his medication.

Court documents say the man says he smoked laced marijuana the day of the stabbing and methamphetamine two days earlier.
