Point Hope gets $3M in transportation grants

The U.S. Transportation Department on Thursday announced half a billion dollars in grants.

Among the recipients: Point Hope.

The North Slope community of 700 will receive nearly $3 million for roads, sidewalks, and buses capable of transporting people with disabilities.

The grant is from a federal program called TIGER, for Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery.

This year, according to the department, rural areas received nearly half of the TIGER grant awards.
