Fairbanks police officer in stable condition after suffering multiple gunshot wounds

A Fairbanks police officer was shot multiple times early Sunday.

The officer is identified as Sgt. Allen Brandt, an 11-year veteran of the Fairbanks Police Department.

Brandt responded to a report of shots fired near the 300 block of 7th Avenue shortly after midnight, when he sustained serious injuries from multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect then fled in Brandt’s patrol vehicle, abandoning it a few blocks away.

Brandt was transported to an Anchorage hospital for treatment, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect remains at large.
