Northern Lights Media, which operates Anchorage’s KTUU and KYES television stations, announced on November 8, that it has agreed to purchase three Fairbanks TV stations.

The $8 million deal with Tanana Valley Television Company and Chena Broadcasting Company brings the KTVF, KXD, and KFXF stations under the Northern Lights Media umbrella.

Andy McLeod, the general manager of Northern Lights Media, said he believes the stations will bolster the company’s news presence around the state:

“At the end of the day, we’ll build better content for the people in Fairbanks for their local news, and better content for the people in Anchorage for their local news, and better content for the people people statewide that are watching our news,” McLeod said.

The acquisition, which would bring Fairbanks’ local NBC, CBS and Fox affiliates under one corporate roof, still requires approval by the Federal Communications Commission.

Though there is no set timeline for the FCC to make a decision, McLeod said the deal should close in the coming months.
