Oil and Gas Speakers Series Continues

The Alaska World Affairs Council is proud to present the second of our Northrim Bank Oil and Gas Series. These events throughout the 2011-2012 season are designed to keep Alaskans abreast of what is going on in the global oil and gas industry and community. This program will feature Marta Jara, President and Director General for the Shell companies in Mexico.

The program, entitled, Global LNG – A Shell View, begins at noon at the Hilton Hotel on Friday, December 9. Doors open at 11:30. Speaker Marta Jara

Marta Jara holds an executive position on the board of the British Chamber of Commerce, chairing its Energy and Environmental sector group; and, is the Chair of the Mexico-Dutch Business Committee of COMCE (Consejo Mexicano de Comercio Exterior). She has served on the editorial board for energy matters of the national newspaper Reforma over the last 2 years.

Ms. Jara is a Chemical Engineer and graduated from the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina). She also holds a Masters degree in Strategic Financial Management from Kingston University (UK). She started her career with Shell in 1991 and has held different management positions in oil products manufacturing and in natural gas projects in Latin America, as well as advisory roles in the corporate offices in London.

In Mexico, she participated in the development of the first LNG regasification terminal built in Mexico at the port of Altamira, Tamaulipas as well as the development of the Energia Costa Azul LNG regasification terminal in Ensenada.

Marta Jara is married with two children.

The Alaska World Affairs Council is a focused educational organization dedicated to stimulating interest in world affairs and inspiring its members to be involved in world events. The council was founded in 1958 by the late Evangeline Atwood with the conviction that better community education in world affairs is necessary for sound democratic citizenship. The Council does not take a stand on current-day issues but rather provides the population a wide spectrum of viewpoints and background information through its diverse range of programs and activities.
