Snow, Sun, & Steel

Like clockwork, the tail-end of Fall brings ice to the waters of the Mat-Su Valley. Like most Alaskan fishermen, we dread the dropping temperatures and shed a silent tear on that day when we have to put away our rods for the season. Colton Conner and Jake Williams refused to accept that reality. Enthusiastically, they endured the five hour drive south to the Anchor River where the water is still open and flowing with hope.

The drive south is beautiful and it keeps our minds occupied so we don’t obsess about the possibility of hooking a Steelhead. The flowing ice concerns us and fresh snow on the river banks excites us for the upcoming adventure. Our hopes of hooking a Steelhead is what gave us the strength to brave the cold weather, frozen gear and ice-cold fingers. Though the tough winter conditions created a challenge for us, we were up to it and were overcome with joy when we felt the tug of a steelhead at the end of our line! We are Stinky Waders.

We are Stinky Waders. We are a collective group that brings a new perspective to the Fly Fishing universe. Through our voice we will amaze and have you question your beliefs on what Fly Fishing means to you.
