Hometown, Alaska Host
Kathleen McCoy has worked as a journalist in Alaska for more than 30 years. After a year at The Nome Nugget in 1981, she joined the Anchorage Daily News as a writer and editor and eventually oversaw the Sunday magazine, We Alaskans, and 14 feature sections, as well as new media and audience interactivity.
After a 2007 sabbatical to Stanford University’s John S. Knight Mid-Career Fellowship Program, where she spent a year studying creativity, leadership and new media, she returned for a final year at the newspaper before accepting a position as an electronic media specialist and storyteller at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Her radio days began when KSKA launched a new community radio program,
Hometown Alaska and she joined as a launching host. She earned concurrent bachelor’s degrees from UC Berkeley in journalism and rhetoric.
