Talkeetna Man Accused in Roadhouse Break-In
A Talkeetna man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into the Talkeetna Roadhouse early Sunday morning. Augustus Shoulders, 19, is charged with causing approximately $2,000 in damage to the building.

Mat-Su Assembly Approves Money For M/V Susitna Upkeep
The Mat-Su Borough Assembly has voted to approve more than $65,000 for the upkeep costs of the M/V Susitna. The prototype ferry was constructed by the U.S. Navy, and was acquired by the Borough in order to provide a means of crossing the Knik Arm. The plan to construct suitable docking facilities never came to be, and the ferry remains moored in Ketchikan.

Overdue Hikers Found Safe On Stampede Trail
Three overdue hikers have been found safe on the Stampede Trail, according to the Alaska State Troopers. On Monday morning, State Troopers and paramedics from the Tri-Valley Fire Department received a report that Jensen Green of Talkeetna, Nate Perkins and Kia Bridges of Utah had begun a hike down the Stampede Trail west of Healy on Saturday and were expected to return Sunday.

Native Corporations Concerned Over Dam Study Trespassing, Safety
A group of seven Alaska Native Corporations and associations are accusing the Alaska Energy Authority of trespassing as the agency does preliminary study work on the Susitna-Watana Dam project. Seven Alaska Native Corporations are expressing concerns over trespassing and land use by Alaska Energy Authority contractors working on the Susitna-Watana Hydroelectric project.

Flightseeing Tour Returns To Talkeetna After 3 Nights On Ruth Glacier
Six passengers and their pilot are safely in Talkeetna today after three nights weathered in at the foot of Denali. John Nealon was flying a DeHavilland Beaver belonging to Talkeetna Air Taxi on a flightseeing tour Tuesday afternoon, when the weather forced him to make an unscheduled landing on the Ruth Glacier.

Unusually High Percentage Of Climbers Summiting Denali
An unusually high percentage of climbers are topping out on North America’s highest peak this summer. In a normal year only about half the climbers attempting Denali reach the peak, but right now the summit rate is 73 percent. It’s the highest success rate recorded on the mountain since 1977. Park officials attribute the streak to relatively good weather during the busiest part of the climbing season.

Details Released On Rescue From ‘Into The Wild’ Bus
The events leading up to Christopher McCandless’ death were compiled in the book Into the Wild, which was later made into a motion picture. Since the release of the book and movie, many have trekked down the 20 miles of the Stampede Trail to visit the former Fairbanks city bus where McCandless died.
Centennial Denali Expedition Reaches Summit
History was repeated last Friday when the Centennial Denali expedition reached the summit of North America's highest peak. The summit team is made up of four men representing the first party to reach the summit of Denali as well as four guides from Alaska Mountaineering School.

KABATA Gets ‘Golden Fleece’ Award From Watchdog Group
A Washington-based watchdog group has given its “Golden Fleece” award to the Knik Arm bridge project in Southcentral Alaska. Taxpayers for Common Sense says the group behind the project, the Knik Arm Bridge and Toll Authority, or KABATA, “has failed Alaska’s citizens and wasted millions of federal taxpayer dollars, with little to show for it.”
