Judge sets trial date for campaign contributions case

A federal judge has set an April trial date in a case that could affect state campaign contributions limits in Alaska. U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Burgess said the trial is estimated to take five days. It is scheduled to start April 25th, about four months before the state's primary elections.

Three candidates are vying for the Matanuska Susitna Borough's mayor's seat. Incumbent Larry DeVilbiss seeks re-election, and he's is being challenged by Assemblyman Vern Halter and dark horse candidate Rosemary Vavrin. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6.

Alaska Primary Election: August 28, 2012

Voting day is Tuesday, August 28 in Alaska's Primary Election. Polling places are open 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM. Besides the U.S. House and legislative races, voters also will be deciding two ballot measures. One would re-establish a coastal management program in Alaska. The other would allow a city or borough to raise the property tax exemption on a residence from $20,000 to up to $50,000.
