Perseverance Theatre presents Hold These Truths

KSKA: Friday, January 6 at 2:45pm Perseverance Theatre starts off the new year with Hold These Truths, a one-man show about Gordon Hirabayashi, the son of Japanese immigrants who was ordered to report to an interment camp outside of Seattle at the start of World War II and how he resisted. Director Leslie Ishii and Actor Greg Watanabe engage in a captivating conversation this week on Stage Talk. The play runs January 6-15 in the Sydney Laurence Theatre and on Sunday, January 7th, the playwright Jeanne Sakata will join the company and audience in a public talk-back. LISTEN NOW

Cyrano’s Theatre Company presents The Ticket

It's 1990 and two of Alaska's most famous political figures are meeting. One, Wally Hickel is trying to get the other, Jay Hammond, to serve as his lieutenant as Hickel runs for Governor of the state. The only thing is, it never happened--except in the mind of Cyrano's Theatre Company's Resident Playwright, Dick Reichman who created the fictional meeting as the basis for his new play The Ticket which opens September 9th and runs through October 9th at Cyrano's Theatre. Stories at the Cemetery

You'll dig the Cemetery Players Theatre Group as they once again congregate in the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery to tell the tales of past famous and infamous citizens of our fair city. The second of three events planned for this summer by the company, Stories at the Cemetery will happen Sunday, July 10th starting at 6:00pm. Eire 1916: A Tale of Revolution

KSKA: Friday, April 22 at 2:45pm History comes alive this weekend at APU's Grant Hall Theatre as Eire 1916: A Tale of Revolution comes to the stage. Inspired by the events of the so-called "Easter Rising" or "Easter Rebellion", which happened 100 years ago this month in Ireland, Eire 1916: A Tale of Revolution uses a mix of live actors, multi-media and music to tell its tale. Phillip Price, who did the lion's share of research for the project (and also appears in the play) joins Director Rodney Lamb and Actor Jodi Clark this week on Stage Talk. History of Chugach State Park

KSKA: Thursday, April 14, at 2pm. When you fly into Anchorage, what do you really notice? It's not the buildings or the roads, it's the mountains that take your breath away. It’s a gift, but it didn’t have to be that way. 50 years ago, the land we now call Chugach State Park was open for development. The Story of “Anne” Continues… at VPA

Those who are familiar with Anne of Green Gables may or may not be surprised that author L. M. Montgomery wrote several more books about the character of Anne Shirley, and some of those have been tuned into stage plays as well. Valley Performing Arts is presenting the second episode in the life of Anne in the play, Anne of Avonlea opening February 19th and running through March 13th. VPA’s The Diary of Anne Frank

One of the most famous stories of endurance, optimism and life comes to the stage in Valley Performing Arts' production of The Diary of Anne Frank dramatized by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett and based upon the book Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl. Cyrano’s presents two plays in rep for one actor

The team of Edgecombe and Ware are at it again. This time with two shows for one actor. David Edgecombe (playwright and director) has collaborated with Elizabeth Ware (playwright, actor) to create A Woman by Design, a play about Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter, the pioneer female architect who designed many of the destination structures around the Grand Canyon and is credited with helping develop the Southwest architectural style. And along with Red Hot Patriot, The Kick-ass Wit of Molly Ivins by Margaret Engel and Allison Engel, Ware brings to the stage two exciting and challenging roles. Oral History Details Whale Sightings

A new exhibit dedicated to Cook Inlet Beluga whales opens today (Friday June 8] at the Alaska Sea Life Center in Seward. To highlight the exhibit, an oral history of the white whales, commissioned by the Kenai Peninsuala Borough, is now available.
