While the seine fleet’s Pink Salmon catches in Southern Southeast have remained below expectations, the huge volume from the northern districts and high prices have made this season more valuable than ever.

Yukon Chum Run Stronger Than Forecast
The Yukon River fall chum run is coming in stronger than forecast. Alaska Department of Fish and Game manager Jeff Estensen says 490,000 chums had passed a state sonar counter near the mouth of the river as of Aug. 8. Estensen says that’s better than the historic average of 340,000 chums for that date, and bodes well for the overall return.
Kuskokwim River Boasts Massive Chum Salmon Run
The Kuskokwim River had a massive Chum salmon run this season. The fish may be called dog salmon, but it's gaining in popularity in international markets, and that’s a good thing for small time commercial fisherman on the river.

Kenai Group Urges Fish and Game Against Sockeye Set-Net Opening
The Kenai River Sportsfising Association is raising the alarm about the late run of Kenai River King Salmon again. Saturday they urged the Fish and Game department to reconsider its Sockeye set-net opening at the river's mouth because an estimate by the Association shows the escapement goal for the Kings will not be reached.
