Plane makes emergency landing on Seward Highway

A light plane made a forced landing on the Seward Highway near Girdwood on Monday, closing the highway for about 15 minutes. The pilot of the plane was injured, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The pilot and bystanders pushed the plane off the road.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, engine failure caused the pilot to make an emergency landing. He had just taken off from the Girdwood airport, and was attempting to return there when he landed on the highway.

Millicent Hoidal with the NTSB says there will be no further investigation.
