Alakanuk man arrested after hitting brother-in-law with ax

A man from the Western Alaska village of Alakanuk is in custody after striking his brother-in-law in the head with an ax.

Troopers say 25-year-old Simon Kokrine and the unnamed victim, also age 25 of Alakanuk, had consumed nearly two gallons of home brew when an argument broke out early Friday.

It’s unknown what the argument was about, but according to a Trooper dispatch, Simon picked up an ax and struck his brother-in-law in the head, leaving a 2-inch laceration.

The victim, was transported to Bethel for treatment.

Simon is in custody with a pending charge of second degree assault.
