Ed Sullivan’s Top Performers – 1966-1969

From the U.S. television debut of the Beatles in 1964 to the Doors’ infamous one-time-only appearance, “The Ed Sullivan Show” brought the greatest musical acts in the world into America’s living rooms every Sunday night. This new MY MUSIC special features both the Beatles and the Doors as well as memorable performances from other superstars of the 60s pop-rock era, including the Mamas & the Papas, the Rolling Stones, Johnny Rivers, the Beach Boys, Tom Jones and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Shell Drill Rig Runs Aground

The Kulluk grounded on the southeast shoreline of Sitkalidak Island (between the north edge of Ocean Bay and Partition Cove) at approximately 9 p.m. on December 31, 2012. The shoreline of Partition Cove is primarily comprised of mixed sand and gravel beaches. Severe weather conditions continue to impact operations.

Autism Bill, Other Measure Take Effect Tuesday

Starting Tuesday, health insurance policies in Alaska will be required to cover treatment of autism spectrum disorders. A portion of that bill, setting up a task force to study such things as the state providing insurance coverage for autism, took effect earlier.

Congress Remains In Deadlock On Fiscal Cliff Deal

As New Year’s Eve approaches, Congress is at an impasse on the so called fiscal cliff, signs point to an agreement on taxes but it’s unclear what will be done about spending cuts.

Suspect In Mail Thefts Arrested

Anchorage police have arrested a 50-year-old man suspected of local collection-mailbox thefts. Clifford Earl Dancer was arrested Saturday night after police spotted him sitting in the passenger seat of a truck in a parking lot outside a liquor store.

Lance Mackey Wins Top of the World 350

Lance Mackey took first place on Sunday in the inaugural running of the Top of the World 350 race from Eagle to Tok. Following Lance in for second place was Gerry Willomitzer. Jake Berkowitz took third.

Long-Time APD Officer Retires

After nearly 18 years on the force, Lt. Dave Parker is retiring from the Anchorage Police Department. Today is his last day. Lt. Parker has been the public information officer for APD for the past four years and was a detective before that. He is also a member of the clergy. He says being a cop is like being a pastor. It’s a helping profession.

Tonight, we reach the conclusion of our reporting series “Being Young In Rural Alaska”, from the producers of Kids These Days. Traveling and reporting in rural Alaska, it’s impossible to miss the signs of alcohol abuse, and yet people often don’t talk about it: it’s such a part of life that it’s almost taken for granted. So what’s it like to be a kid growing up around heavy alcohol use in small-town Alaska? Sarah Gonzales heads to Kotzebue to find out.

Milder Temps, Strong Winds Expected for Anchorage, Mat-Su

The National Weather Service said it could be comparatively mild but possibly very windy in the Anchorage area Monday and Tuesday. Similar forecasts are in store for the Matanuska Valley.

Weather Service Issues High Wind Watch for East Anchorage

The National Weather Service issued a high wind watch for East Anchorage on Saturday and urged residents to monitor the weather throughout the weekend. The service said "travel may be difficult. Trees may be blown over. Loose debris can be moved and damage property."

Longliners Seek Delegation’s Support For Electronic Monitoring

A major gear group is pushing back against rules set to take effect this January that will put human observers aboard some smaller fishing boats. The Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association has enlisted the help of the state’s congressional delegation to try and delay implementation of the observer program for small boats, and to adopt a more efficient electronic monitoring program instead.

Suit Filed Over Fisheries Observer Program

A small cruise line with ties to the conservation community in Southeast Alaska has filed a lawsuit over the federal fisheries observer program, saying that too many Chinook and halibut.
